Your Counselor: Dr. Jacob Gibson, Marriage and Family Therapist, Ph.D., LMFT
Dr. Gibson earned a Ph.D. in Marriage & Family Therapy from Loma Linda University in 2008. From the beginning of his college education, he wanted to work with families, and even more-so the teenagers in the families. He saw my first clients in 2001, and for the last 6½ years, he worked in a local clinic focused on trauma and attachment issues, specifically with kids who are or were, in state custody. He used attachment theory, EMDR, mindfulness & meditation, and other treatments to help families heal.

At the beginning of summer 2019, he decided to branch out on his own. He created South Valley Family Wellness with the vision to connect families with the resources in our community that would best support them as they discover and create the best version of themselves.

He is a husband, father, brother, son, friend, and other roles similar to what his clients have. His relationship experiences in these roles help him understand what his clients are going through. And though we are all different, we are also very much alike in our hopes/dreams/fears/strengths/weaknesses/experiences. Through offering mutual respect and value for each other’s experiences and views, we develop trust for each other and for the process of therapy.
Your Financial Coach: Scott Sherman
Back in 2014, Scott became interested in personal finance when he realized that he didn’t really know what he was doing. Maybe that sounds familiar to you. He was trying to understand what he was supposed to do with a small 401(k) from a previous job, but he had no idea. I began to research his options and find out more information about personal finances. The more he read, the more he understood, and the more he realized he needed to learn about managing money.
He also found the journey wasn’t nearly as complex or scary as he thought.

That is what Scott wants to show his clients: That they can take control of their money and their financial life, leave behind the stress and fear and confusion, and live the way they choose. He does not manage investments, sell insurance, or make commissions off any financial product. He simply helps you to learn how to better manage your money.

Scott and his wife live in South Jordan, Utah, with their 8-year-old daughter. They also provide for two young adults who are early in their own careers, as well. Scott and his wife enjoy music, cruising, and gathering with friends.
